Hyderabad woman shares experience of witnessing Uber driver masturbating in car

Sharma took to Facebook on October 19 to share her own experience. She wrote on a Facebook post, how her Uber driver was literally masturbating inside the car while heading towards the Hyderabad airport.

She said:"Today my #Uber driver thought it perfectly normal to masturbate while dropping me to the airport. As soon as we were on the relatively empty ORR in #Hyderabad, he slowed the car to about a 50 kmph and kept glancing back in the rearview mirror."

"After about 5mins when I realized what he was doing, I shouted and asked him to stop the car - unfazed, and continuing his act, he very nonchalantly asked me what was wrong" the Hyderabad resident said.

Though she came out of the car after screaming and shouting, as she said, a fear had engulfed her altogether.

"I was scared- as an alone woman in a still-unfamiliar city. Scared of what else he may do since I'd threatened him. Scared that he may return while I waited on the road for another cab" Sharma exlplained in the post.

Thanking everyone who have shown support for her, Sharma, who is presently in Delhi, said the Delhi police did not file a case against the accused since it is beyond their jurisdiction.

Sharma will be able to file a case in Hyderabad after she returns to her own city.

The victim, failing to get any positive response from Uber other than just firing the driver, said she will contact the Ministry of Child and Women Development, Government of India.

"I have spoken to the ADCP (SHE Team - Cyberabad Police Commissionerate) who has assured me that they'll file the report once I go back to Hyderabad next week. I'd also like to call out the Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India who helped submit a request on my behalf to the Commissioner of Police (Hyderabad) to have this matter investigated," Sharma's latest Facebook post read.

The driver has been identified as B. Raju.

Sharma's sharing of experience came at a time the social media is getting flooded with #MeToo in the wake of the reports of sexual harassment of actresses by powerful Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

American actress Alyssa Milano, on October 15, wrote a post on Twitter and asked her followers to retweet it with a reply 'me too' if they were sexually harassed or assaulted , to imply the "magnitude of the problem".

The urge to retweet by the actress has sparked the hashtag as several women started to write on social networking sites #MeToo and some of them even shared their own experiences.

Women on Twitter have been active in sharing their experiences since the last week after a report by The New York Times on October 5, which reported about the Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein alleged sexual misconduct.

Joining the list of actresses, Montreal actress Erika Rosenbaum went public recently about her alleged sexual harassment complaints against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, saying the latter had harassed her years ago.
