Goa: Govt begins demolition of restaurant linked to Sonali Phogat's death

Panaji: The Goa government on Friday began demolition of Curlies restaurant in North Goa which was allegedly linked to the death of Bharatiya Janata Party leader and actress Sonali Phogat.

The structure was being demolished for allegedly violating Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms, an official said.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had on Thursday upheld the earlier order of Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority to demolish the shack.

Sonali, who hailed from Hisar district in Haryana, was brought dead to a private hospital in Anjuna on August 23.

Though initially it was reported that Sonali had died of heart attack but the postmortem conducted later revealed that there were multiple blunt injuries on her body.

Five persons were arrested in connection with the crime.

Meanwhile, a heavy posse of police personnel has been deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward incident.
