General strike evokes mixed response in Bihar
Patna/UNI: The General Strike called by Central Trade Unions (CTUs) to protest 'anti-labour and anti-poor policies being pursued by the Narendra Modi government' on Wednesday evoked partial response in Bihar as left parties workers and those associated with Unions tried to paralyse traffic flow and train services while some business establishments also remained closed.
Trade Unions called for General Strike are AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF and UTUC who came down heavily on Narendra Modi government for 'anti-poor and anti-labour policies badly affecting national economy and employment opportunities.'
They are also upset over continued efforts of the government to amend labour laws in favour of management.
In Patna, a large number of trade union workers, Anganwadi Sevikas, Asha workers staged a dharna at Dak-Bungalow crossing and paralysed traffic movements.
They raised anti-government slogans and demanded to fix minimum pension of Rs 10,000 per month and Rs 21,000 per month salary to workers.
Later, police dispersed the gathering to clear the crossing for smooth flow of traffic.
Local auto rickshaw unions and rickshaw pullers unions also supported the strike causing great difficulties to people in reaching their various destinations.
Dharnas and protests were also organised near Gandhi Maidan and a procession was taken out from Kargil Chowk to Ramghulam Chowk raising anti-government slogans.
