Krishnagar, May 12(UNI) A cloth merchant allegedly duped several police officials in Nadia district of nearly Rs 3 lakh, posing as the OC of Nakashipara police station, after hacking latter's social media account.

Allegedly one Rabiul Islam, resident of Maslandapur of Habra police station area in North 24 Pargana district, hacked OC Raja Sarkar's social media account and used his identity to forge friendship with 20 police officials, mostly women, of various police stations in the district.

The matter came to light when a police official of Shantipur police station called Sarkar and requested him to return the money, which Rabiul had allegedly collected from the official in Sarkar's name, a few months back.

Immediately, Sarkar launched an investigation into the matter and arrested Rabiul from his Maslandapur residence on Saturday.

Upon interrogation, Rabiul confessed that he had conned several police officials in Nadia district and extracted Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 from each of them.

He even entrapped several policewomen of Nabadwip, Shantipur, Ranaghat and Krishnagar police stations into romantic relationships and duped them of tens of thousands of rupees.

He was produced at the Krishnangar district court on Sudnay afternoon.
