Kolkata, Sep 2 (IBNS): A major fire broke at a multi-storied building, Chatterjee International, in the heart of Kolkata’s Chowringhee area on Tuesday morning, official sources said.

According to West Bengal fire brigade sources, the fire broke out at around 8.30 am as the blaze engulfed the 12th and 13th floors of the high-rise building located along Jawaharlal Nehru Road, a key arterial stretch of this bustling eastern metropolis.

At least eight fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. The adjoining roads were partly closed as fire officials were trying to enter the fire-ravaged floors using hydraulic ladder.

At least four people were caught in the fire, reports said. Rescue operation is on.
