Katra, Apr 19 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who addressed a convocation ceremony at Shri Mata Vaishno Devii University on Tuesday, urged the students to do something useful.

"Dream to do something and not to become someone," The PM said.

The PM said that foresight of things will help an individual to plan accordingly.

"Question of what next will play on your minds. But the person who knows what lies ahead won't need to depend on others."

He also urged the pupils to acknowledge their parents' sacrifice.

"Recall what your parents did for you. They sacrificed their own happiness for yours," he said.

The PM also said that failures are bound to happen but one should always look at the gains.

"You may have thought of so much in your childhood but it may not have worked out. Forget that & instead think of what you have achieved," PM Modi said.

Speaking about the university, Modi said that it was contribution from poor pilgrims that helped in building the institution and urged the students to help the poor.

"This university is built through the contribution of so many pilgrims, many of whom came from far away places," he said, while adding, "Let's pledge that we will do something for poor, because it was a poor pilgrim who contributed to build this university."

The PM also backed the younger generation to scale new heights as he said, "Our nation is scaling new heights of progress and with such a youthful population we can achieve so much."

Calling India a fore-bearer of knowledge, the Prime Minister said, "This is a century of knowledge & whenever there has been an era of knowledge India showed the way."
