New Delhi, June 7 (IBNS): CPI(M) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sitaram Yechury was attacked on Wednesday by two men during a press conference at the national capital, according to media reports.

Yechury was holding a press conference at the party's central committee matting hall when some trespassers entered and heckled him by praising the Indian army as "Hindu sena".

The senior CPI(M) leader, just few moments later, gave strong views on Twitter and said that he won't be "cowed down" by any pressure.

"We will not be cowed down by any attempts of Sangh's goondagardi to silence us. This is a battle for the soul of India, which we will win" Yechury said in a tweet.

The trespassers also raised slogans like "Hindu Sena Mahan".

Later, the police detained both men for attacking Yechury.

Condemning the whole incident, Kerala CM Pinarayi Viijayan called it "an attack on Indian democracy".
