Congress slams Narendra Modi over his sudden visit to Pakistan
"We have definitive information that this was pre-arranged..They met for one hour in Kathmandu during SAARC summit," Congress leader Anand Sharma said while addressing a press conference here.
Hitting out at External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's remarks on the visit where she has called Modi a 'statesman', Sharma said: "His External Affairs Minister claims, very foolishly so, that its statesman like. We completely reject her claim."
Swaraj earlier in the day appreciated the PM for his decision to visit Pakistan and tweeted: "That's like a statesman. Padosi se aise hi rishte hone chahiyen. (One should have such a relationship with neighbours)."
Attacking the PM, the Congress said diplomacy must have seriousness and gravitas.
"How many PMs or Heads of States make such detours to wish b'days? In last 67 yrs, has any Indian PM landed in another country in this manner," he said.
Paying a short and sudden visit to Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his counterpart Nawaz Sharif on Friday.
He also attended Sharif's home in Raiwind where his grand-daughter's wedding is being held.
