Chief of Staff of Japan Self Defence Forces meet Eastern Command GOC-in-C in Kolkata

Kolkata, Mar 7 (IBNS): Admiral Katsutoshi Kawano, Chief of Staff, Joint Staff, Japan Self Defence Forces (JSDF) is in Kolkata on a two day visit.

He arrived in Kolkta on Tuesday, along with a delegation of five officers of JSDF.

The visit of  the Chief of Staff of JSDF is a part of the bilateral visits as agreed during the visit of the Indian Defence Minister to Japan in September last year under the framework of “India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership”.

Admiral Kawano met Lt Gen Abhay Krishna, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command,on Wednesday at Eastern Command Headquarters Fort William.

The General officers stressed upon the recognition of bilateral strategic partnership and broad based co-operation in Defence and Security fields. They also discussed the current dynamics as prevalent in South East Asia.        

Lt Gen Abhay Krishna felicitated Admiral Kawano with a memento to commemorate the first of such a visit by the COS, Jt Staff of JSDF.

Admiral Kawano also visited the historic Eastern Command Museum and Library at Fort William after interacting with the Army Commander.
