Cannabis worth Rs 6 lakh seized close to Mumbai; one held

Thane, May 15 (UNI) A 35-year-old man was arrested and 39.700 kg cannabis worth Rs 6 lakh seized in Mumbra town of this district, police said on Wednesday.

Thane Police Spokesman Sukhada Narkar said that acting on a tip-off, the sleuths on Tuesday kept a vigil near the non-operational toll naka at Mumbra bypass.

At 2230 hrs, the police nabbed one Irshad Iqubal Inamdar, a resident of Pisavali village in Kalyan here.

"A search of the arrested accused revealed that he was carrying the banned narcotic weighing 39.700 kg with him," stated Mr Narkar.

Offences against the accused has been registered under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and further investigation into the case is underway.
