BJP leader Mukul Roy seeks Mamata's resignation after Nazat killings
Kolkata, Jun 10 (UNI): BJP leader Mukul Roy today demanded resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, hours after she was quoted as alleging that some police officials were encouraging hooliganism and not taking action against goons.
Addressing a media conference at the party office, Mr Roy in reference to the chief minister's statement at Nabanna, the BJP leader said Mamata Banerjee should quit the office after her admission as she is also state home minister.
The state has been rocked with violent incidents since Lok Sabha poll and after the results were out, which took a worst state on Saturday evening when bloody clashes killed two BJP supporters and a TMC activist at Nazat under Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas.
"If policemen do not obey, then Mamata Banerjee should quit the ministry as she is also state home minister," Mr Roy told reporters in reference to the chief minister statement during briefing to news persons at Nabanna, the state secretariat.
"Why she is not quitting when the chief minister says that police is not listening. Even some of ruling party MLAs also saying so and in this context the chief minister must take responsibility and quit the office," Mr Roy, who once led the TMC as No 2 into the power in 2011, opined.
Ms Banerjee said that her government was identifying who are the officers like OC and SI not doing good work and abetting into commit crime. The chief minister also slammed the opponents saying there was conspiracy to create disturbances in the state.
She also asked who were behind taking the Darjeeling Municipality councillors into Nepal and from there to New Delhi.
She claimed that the Nepalese government had arrested the councillors but after getting call from New Delhi they were released and sent to the national capital.
BJP leader Mukul Roy accused the chief minister of creating disturbances across the state by dividing people on line of communal sentiments and said they (BJP) would not allow Mamata Banerjee to become a so called martyr.
He said they would not fall into the trap of the TMC government and fight politically against Mamata Banerjee.
Mr Roy claimed that the wanted to bring the bodies of two BJP supporters killed at Nazat to Kolkata on Sunday, but the police did not allow because the TMC did not want it.
Mr Roy said from 2009 to 2011, Mamata had several times brought bodies from villages to Kolkata with procession but now she has forgotten everything.
Mr Roy also questioned the TMC government's intention as the main accused of the killing Shekh Sajahan has not been arrested.
