BJP disciplines Pragya Singh Thakur, Anant Kumar Hegde & Naleenkumar Kateel for Godse comments

In a series of tweets on Friday, BJP president Amit Shah distanced the party from these comments and said: "The statements made by Ananth Kumar Hegde, Sadhvi Pragya Thakur and Nalin Kateel over the past two days are of personal nature and the Bharatiya Janata Party has no connection with those."

“These people have withdrawn their statements and apologised. Yet, taking into consideration the fact that these statement go against the Bharatiya Janata Party's dignity and ideology, the party has decided to send them to the disciplinary committee," he said, adding that the three had been asked to give formal reports to the party on their comments within 10 days.

Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder and film legend Kamal Hassan had sparked a controversy last Sunday by stating that the first extremist of Independent India was a Hindu whose name was Nathuram Godse.

When asked her reaction on Hassan's comment, BJP's Bhopal candidate Pragya Singh Thakur said: "Nathuram Godse was a deshbhakt, is a deshbhakt and will remain a deshbhakt. People calling him a terrorist should instead look within, such people will be given a fitting reply in the election."

The Malegaon blasts-accused Thakur has since apologised for her comment but accused the media of twisting what she had said.

BJP sitting MP Naleenkumar Kateel on Friday tweeted while Godse had killed one man, Kasab killed 72, Rajeev Gandhi was responsible for the death of 17000.

The BJP MP deleted the tweets shortly afterwards.
