Bengal: Post-poll violence continues, half-a-dozen sustain injuries

Kolkata, May 7 (UNI) An elector, identified as Md Akbar, was shot at Sreerampur, some BJP supporters sustained bomb injuries in Bongaon and a minor boy was injured when bomb exploded near his home at Barasat, as reports of post, poll-violence came from different parts where the 5th phase polling ended in West Bengal's three districts on Monday.

Police investigating the shootout said Md Akbar, was hit by a bullet fired by one Raja Gupta while the victim was returning home after casting vote at Jhaubagan under Sreerampur Lok Sabha seat.The injured has been admitted to a city hospital, with a bullet wound in one of his legs. After primary medical aid he had been shifted to Walsh Hospital at Sreerampur.

An FIR was lodged at the Sreerampur police station where the family of the victim alleged that Raja used to threaten Md Akbar during post-poll days.

A report from Bongaon in North 24 Parganas said some BJP supporters were also injured during an attack while they were returning home. BJP local leaders filed an FIR with Bongaon; police station in which they alleged the attack came from men of TMC. TMC denied this allegation.

Five-year-old-boy sustained splinter wound in one of his eyes when an unidentified miscreants placed bomb near his home at Duttapukur's Babpur under Barasat police station last night.
