Bengal assembly elections: Post poll violence injures many in Birbhum

According to reports, few hours after the Election Commission conducted an almost free, fair and peaceful election in Birbhum district's 11 constituencies, few TMC and CPI-M activists engaged in a clash with each other at Gorapara and Hansda villages under Parui Police Station limits.

They also started gunshot firing and bomb throwing, aiming at each other. Few huts and houses in these villages were ransacked as well.

One CPI-M activist was shot and at least five other workers of both parties were injured in the battle.

A huge police force, Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Central Paramilitary Force personnel rushed to the spot in the wee hours of Monday and rescued the injured.

However, these six men are being treated in a hospital in Suri.

Newly appointed Superintendent of Birbhum district Police, Sabyasachi Raman Mishra, has recommended the CEO of West Bengal to suspend the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Parui Police Station, Debabrata Singha, for neglecting his duty.

"The situation is under control now. A heavy security force has been deployed in the restive areas of Parui. Few suspects have been detained from the villages for creating violence. A detailed report of the incident, including a recommendation to remove Parui PS's OC, has been sent to the Election Commission. OC of Parui PS, Debabrata Singha, has been kept inactive, until any direction comes from the commission," one senior official of Birbhum district police told IBNS.

However, till the latest update came in, Additional SP of Birbhum Ananda Roy is on the spot and handling the situation. The Election Commission has sent close to hundred CPF personnel to the place, to keep the situation under control.
