Bangla Sahib row explodes: DSGMC Harmeet Singh Kalka files complaint against Kejriwal, AAP leaders

Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Harmeet Singh Kalka has filed a complaint against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his associates, accusing them of politicising the controversy surrounding protesters who entered Gurdwara Bangla Sahib during the Cockroach Janata Party's (CJP) demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Kalka warned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) against using the gurdwara for political gains, alleging that Kejriwal and his party members entered the shrine and raised party slogans.

He also alleged the political outfit of circulating 'misleading' videos during the protest.

In a post on X, Kalka said, “Gurdwara Bangla Sahib is a timeless symbol of compassion and selfless sewa, open to all without distinction. Let’s protect its sanctity, reject negative propaganda, and not let misinformation divide us. Guru Ghar belongs to everyone!”

In another post, he shared details of the complaint filed against Kejriwal and his associates.

“Today, I filed a formal complaint at the DCP Office, Parliament Street, against Arvind Kejriwal and his associates over the incident at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib and the circulation of misleading videos to malign Guru Ghar and its management,” he wrote.

Kalka also criticised the presence of police personnel inside the gurdwara, while defending their actions as part of an attempt to detain protesters who had allegedly staged a sit-in inside the premises.

“The sight of police walking around in the gurdwara has hurt the sentiments of people, but they went there to detain protesters who had camped inside carrying placards with political messages and were also raising political slogans. This is not allowed in the gurdwara, and AAP is playing politics over the issue. There's no forgiveness for those who turn holy places into political arenas,” Kalka was quoted as saying by The Tribune.

According to media reports, several protesters had attempted to march towards Jantar Mantar but were stopped by police after being warned. They subsequently entered a gurdwara in the area and allegedly attempted to stage a sit-in while displaying placards.

Gurdwara staff reportedly asked the protesters to leave, citing restrictions on political activities within the sacred premises and the need to preserve the dignity of the religious site, The Statesman reported.

The controversy has drawn attention amid preparations for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, where the AAP is currently in power.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police is reportedly considering legal action against those circulating a video that purportedly shows police personnel walking inside the gurdwara wearing shoes.

According to The Tribune, police have maintained that the personnel were using a pathway leading to the area where footwear is removed, and
