Guwahati, Nov 11 (IBNS) : Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday said that ULFA leader Anup Chetia’s extradition to India will have a positive impact on the ongoing Government and pro-talk ULFA peace process.

“We believe Anup Chetia will play an important role in the ongoing peace talks between the Government and the pro-talk ULFA,” Gogoi said.

Gogoi also said the Assam Government has long been demanding for extradition of Anup Chetia for a fruitful peace talks.

The Assam CM said that he received the information that Bangladesh Government has handed over Anup Chetia to the High Commission of India in Bangladesh and the Union Minister for Home, Rajnath Singh informed him about the development over phone on Wednesday at 3 pm.

“Union government should handover Anup Chetia to Assam once he is brought to the country as it has been done in case of some other ULFA leaders including Arabinda Rajkhowa. Gogoi also said that Government of India should give Anup Chetia adequate opportunity to play an important role in the peace talks between government and pro-talk faction of the ULFA,” Gogoi said.
