Kolkata, Jun 25 (IBNS): Three persons, including a woman and an infant, from Kolkata, out on a weekend trip, drowned in the Bay of Bengal at Henry Island near Bakkhali in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district on Saturday, reports said on Sunday.

According to reports, a group of tourists had started swimming in the sea in late afternoon and four of them suddenly drowned in the water.

Locals rescued one woman alive while remaining three went missing in the deep sea.

Rescue teams from Frezerganj Coastal Police Station rushed to spot and began search operations.

Later on Sunday early morning, three bodies were recovered from nearby areas, according to officials.

"Three deceased have been identified as 37-year-old Somraj Gupta, his 7-year-old daughter Sangeeta Gupta and another middle-aged woman Rishita Pramanick," a local police official told IBNS.

Police, however, have started investigation into the incident.
