24 passengers fall ill after consuming food served in Tejas Express, IRCTC starts investigation

Mumbai, Oct 15 (IBNS): At least 24 passengers, who were travelling in Goa-Mumbai Tejas Express, have fallen ill after they consumed food served by on-board pantry car, reports said.

The catering of the train is performed by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

The passengers were admitted to hospital for treatment.

The IRCTC tweeted: "A case of food poisoning reported in train no 22120 Tejas Exp on date upon information from Passengers. 1/6."

"The train has stopped out of course as chiplon & first treatment given to passengers by Rly doctor," it said.

In a further tweet, the IRCTC said: "Further 24 passengers has been admitted in life care hospital for medical assistance. Staff has accompanied passengers to hospital. 3/6."

The IRCTC said that the patients are out of danger.

"Dear Sir/Ma'am, We understand your concern.We would like to assure you that all the passengers currently hospitalized are out of danger and the same has been confirmed by hospital authorities," read the tweet.

The IRCTC said they have started an investigation into the matter.

"Food samples have been taken for investigation . Total 230 Breakfast ( 117 Veg + 113 Non Veg ) have been served," read the tweet.
