USA: Santoor Ashram Kolkata mesmerises Los Angeles with a celebration of Indian classical music

The Santoor Ashram, Kolkata, carried the fragrance of India’s rich cultural heritage to the United States with a spellbinding evening of Indian classical music at the Mandir, Arvine.

The concert, held on August 24, brought together maestros, disciples, and music lovers in a soulful celebration of tradition and talent.

The evening began with an immersive workshop conducted by Santoor Legend Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya, one of India’s foremost classical musicians and a torchbearer of the Maihar Gharana.

The workshop offered local students and enthusiasts of Indian classical music rare insights into the nuances of raga, rhythm, and improvisation, making it a truly enriching experience.

Following the workshop, the audience was treated to a concert that blended youthful brilliance with classical depth.

Two of Santoor Ashram’s most promising students showcased their artistry.

Rama V. Rao enchanted the gathering with soulful renditions on the Flute, presenting Raag Hansadhwani and Raag Bhupali with finesse and devotion.

Ahilan Hatti, the young Santoor exponent, left the audience spellbound with his mastery over Raag Jogkauns, skillfully presenting both Vilambit Teental and Drut Teental, demonstrating maturity far beyond his years.

They were ably accompanied on the Tabla by Pandit Jyotirmay Roychowdhury, an accomplished percussionist who is currently touring the USA alongside Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya.

His rhythmic support added depth and vibrance to the evening’s performances.

Speaking on the occasion, Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya expressed his joy at witnessing young talents carry forward the rich legacy of Indian classical music on global platforms.

He emphasized the mission of Santoor Ashram Kolkata—to create a worldwide movement for Indian classical music through education, performances, and cultural exchange.

The event at Mandir, Arvine, not only showcased the timeless appeal of Indian ragas but also highlighted the spirit of Guru-Shishya Parampara (teacher-disciple tradition) that continues to nurture and inspire musicians across generations.

With such endeavors, Santoor Ashram Kolkata reaffirms its commitment to spreading the universal language of music—bridging cultures, inspiring youth, and keeping the flame of Indian classical tradition glowing bright across the world.
