Soumitra Chatterjee unveils Rabindrasangeet album of Kolkata singer

Released by Asha Audio, the album was launched at Starmark bookstore as much by Chatterjee as Jonaki Mukherjee's husband and well known music composer Debojyoti Mishra, while accompanying the legendary Bengali actor and Dadasaheb Phalke winner (Chatterjee) was danseuse and social activist Alakananda Roy.

"This is a very special album for me and I dedicate it to my students," said Jonaki Mukherjee. 

This album  compiles eight euphonious compositions of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, revisited by Mukherjee in a contemporary tone. It includes songs such as Aguner Porosh Moni, Phule Phule Dhole Dhole, and Ekla Chole Re, among others. All the songs have been carefully selected to inspire today’s youth and instill in them, positive values, she said.

‘"Being an ardent follower of Tagore’s music and poetry, I always dreamt of coming up with such an endeavour," she said. 

Mukherjee wants her students to experience Tagore in their own way, to inculcate in them the values that his songs convey.

"I have tried to reach them in their way," she said. 

Debojyoti Mishra shared that Aro Alo Aro Preme is equally special for him, it being the duo’s first album together, and for which he himself has arranged the music.  He fondly praised his wife’s work on the album, particularly mentioning Ekla cholo re, a song that holds special significance for Mukherjee as well. 

Part of the music video, beautifully created by Siddhart Banerjee, was shown to the audience. It  showcases, among her other skills,  Mukherjee’s artistry in blending two different songs – Ekla cholo re and Vande Mataram. 

Soumitra Chatterjee and Alakananda Roy were affectionate in the praises for her, congratulating her and wishing her success. The launch ended with both being presented with a painting each, made by Mishra himself.
