Two coal mines collapse in Pakistan, 23 killed

Islamabad, May 6 (IBNS): At least 23 people were killed as two coal mines collapsed near Quetta city in Pakistan on Saturday, media reports said on Sunday.

 Twenty-three miners were killed Saturday when two coal mine collapsed near Quetta, chief mines inspector told Pakistan-based Geo News. 

The first collapse incident occurred in Marwaarh, 45 kilometres east of Quetta city of Pakistan.

The collapse reportedly occurred due to gas explosion.

"The roof caved in following an explosion triggered by the accumulation of methane gas, killing 16 miners and wounding nine others, two of them seriously", Jawaid Shahwani, commissioner of Quetta Division told Geo News.

At least 30 labours were present inside the mine when the blast occurred.

The injured people were rushed to hospital for treatment.

In another collapse incident in Sooranj area seven miners were killed.

Bodies of five miners were rescued on Sunday morning when the search operation commenced.
