US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin met in Alaska on Friday, where they failed to reach a concrete agreement to end the ongoing Ukraine war, though both leaders concluded that the talks were productive.

The two leaders joined for a press briefing after meeting for more than two hours.

During the press briefing, Putin described the talks as a "constructive atmosphere of mutual respect."

"Today's agreement will be the starting point not only for the solution in Ukraine, but will also help us bring back business…between Russia and the U.S.," Putin was quoted as saying during the briefing by Fox News.

Trump described the meeting as 'extremely productive'.

Speaking on the peace deal, he was quoted as saying by Fox News: "There were many, many points that we agreed on, most of them, I would say. A couple of big ones that we haven't quite gotten there, but we've made some headway."

The US President said he would call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and NATO leaders to discuss the content of his meeting with Putin

'10 out of 10'

Meanwhile, in a separate interview with Fox News, Trump rated his meeting with Putin as '10 out of 10'.

"I can tell you, the meeting was a very warm meeting," President Trump told Fox News.

Trump said: "You know, he’s a strong guy, he’s tough as hell on all of that, but the meeting was a very warm meeting between two very important countries, and it’s very good when they get along. I think we’re pretty close to a deal. Now look, Ukraine has to agree to it."

He further said: "A couple of big ones that we haven't quite gotten there, but we've made some headway. So, there's no deal until there's a deal."

Zelenskyy says Ukraine is ready to work positively to end the war

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who was not invited to the meeting, said his nation is ready to work productively to end the war that has been ongoing since 2022.

"On the day of negotiations, the Russians are killing as well. And that speaks volumes. Recently, weʼve discussed with the U.S. and Europeans what can truly work. Everyone needs a just end to the war. Ukraine is ready to work as productively as possible to bring the war to an end, and we count on a strong position from America," he said.
"Everything will depend on this – the Russians factor in American strength. Make no mistake – strength," the President said.
