Pakistan's Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Hasaan Khawar has said the ongoing protest by the proscribed Islamist group Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) has caused a loss of around Rs 4 billion to the country’s economy while since 2017 it is estimated to be Rs 35 billion.

He was quoted as saying by Dawn News that the TLP’s agitation since 2017 had caused a loss of Rs 35 bn to the economy owing to damage to public and private property as well as suspension of business activities.

He said the GT Road blockade had suspended supply of fruits and vegetables to markets as the produce rotted in trucks.

Scholar Mufti Muneebur Rehman has said negotiations between the government and  TLP have been "successful".

"The government of Pakistan and the TLP had a detailed discussion under the environment of mutual trust, and an agreement has been reached between the two sides," he said while addressing a press conference.

"The agreement was reached after sense prevailed over aggression, rationality prevailed over sentiments, and all the participants demonstrated patience," he said.

"I want to urge the entire nation that this is not the victory of any individual, but it is the victory of Islam, patriotism, and protection of human lives," he said.
