Sindh Assembly Speaker arrested outside Pakistan Supreme Court in disproportionate assets case

Islamabad/UNI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday arrested Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani from outside the Pakistan Supreme Court building after the court ordered him to surrender before the anti-graft body.

According to a report published in The Nation, the orders were given during a hearing of the provincial Assembly Speaker's plea seeking bail in a disproportionate assets case.

After failing to get bail from the Sindh High Court (SHC), Durrani had filed a petition in the SC for pre-arrest bail in the NAB reference filed against him.

After evading the anti-corruption watchdog for a month and a half, Durrani was arrested by the NAB Rawalpindi team.

According to reports, Durrani has been accused of assigning properties worth millions of rupees under the names of his servants, besides possessing expensive vehicles.

During Friday’s hearing, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah said the SHC rejected the bail plea on merit and the SC will not hear the case before the SHC order is implemented.

The court then ordered the PPP leader to first comply with the SHC’s order and surrender before NAB, after which his case would be heard next week.
