Rescued hostages say attackers left those who could recite Quran verses
Dhaka, Jul 2 (IBNS): Spilling the beans about the bloody saga, where people were kept hostage for nearly 10 hours in a restaurant in Dhaka's upscale Gulshan, rescued hostages said that the attackers left those who could recite verses from the Quran and tortured the others who failed to perform the task, reports said.
The Daily Star quoted the father of a rescued hostage, Rezaul Karim as saying, "The others were tortured by the gunmen."
Razaul, whose son, daughter and wife were present there in the restaurant to celebrate the birthday of his daughter, said that the gunmen left the Bangladeshi nationals and tortured the foreigners.
"They (gunmen) did not behave rough with the Bangladesh nationals," he said.
Quoting his son Hasnat, he said that on the contrary the gunmen provided food for the Bangladeshis.
"The gunmen were doing a background check on religion by asking everyone to recite from the Quran. Those who could recite a verse or two were spared. The others were tortured," he said.
