Islamabad: Inflation rate touched 12.96 percent in Pakistan as consumer good's prices continued to soar higher in January, as per data released by the country's Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Tuesday.

The figure touched a two-year high figure.

According to the PBS data, the year-on-year inflation during the last month — measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) — was the highest since January 2020 while the month-on-month inflation increased to 0.39 percent compared to December, reports The Dawn.

Inflation had touched 14.6 percent in Jan 2020.

The average inflation rate between July 2021 to January 2022 stood at 10.26 percent, reports The Dawn.

Fahad Rauf, the head of research at Ismail Iqbal Securities Ltd, had earlier told Dawn that an increase in petroleum prices along with the house rent revision was going to push up inflation numbers for January.
