A Pakistani man shot dead his son in Peshawar city after he hoisted the party flag of former PM Imran Khan at his residence.

The incident happened at a time when Pakistan is gearing up for the national polls on Feb 8.

The father is reportedly a supporter of the Awami National Party (ANP).

Preliminary details indicate that the dispute erupted over the son, Atta-ur Rehman, allegedly disregarding parental advice. Enraged by the disagreement, the father, Noor-ur Rehman, resorted to violence, leading to the tragic death of his son, reported Gulf Today.

The rift between the duo escalated after the son hoisted the PTI flag at their residence in Badhber area near Peshawar.

According to police officials, the son sustained critical injuries in the gunfire, and despite immediate efforts for medical assistance, he succumbed to his wounds, reported Gulf Today.

The man initially fled the spot.

He was later arrested.

Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
