Wellington/UNI/Xinhua: New Zealand reported 24 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, said the Ministry of Health.

The 24 new cases were all community cases in Auckland, while there was no new case detected at the border, said Caroline McElnay, the Director of Public Health from the ministry.

The total case number in the current Delta variant COVID-19 outbreak in the New Zealand community reached 1,050 with 1,033 in Auckland and 17 in Wellington, she added.

The total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand reached 3,704 since the beginning of the pandemic.

At the Sunday press conference, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern encouraged the public to take the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible.

To date, the country administered 4,684,416 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, including 3,078,338 first doses and 1,606,078 second doses.

New Zealand's largest city Auckland is currently at COVID-19 Alert Level Four lockdown. The rest of the country is at Alert Level Two restrictions with indoor activities limited to 50 people.

The Cabinet will make a decision on the potential Alert Level changes on Monday.
