London/IBNS: Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai announced her marriage with partner Asser on social media on Tuesday.

The activist and Asser had their nikkah in a small ceremony at home in Britain's Birmingham in presence of family members.

Yousafzai tweeted, "Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead."

Born in Pakistan's Swat District in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, she was shot by Pakistani Taliban terrorists in 2012 for speaking in favour of the girls'right to learning. She was only 11-years-old then.

Yousafzai was taken to a hospital in Birmingham, where she recovered from the critical head injury and later continued her activism for education for the girl child.

She set up Malala Fund, a charity dedicated to giving every girl an opportunity to achieve her full potential through leaning and education.
