Pairs, July 26 (IBNS): Militant group ISIS on Tuesday claimed responsibility for the attack carried out at a church in France.

SITE Intel Group tweeted: "#ISIS 'Amaq reported that "two soldiers of the Islamic State" carried out the attack at a church in #Normandy #France."

One hostage was killed and two men armed with blades were shot dead by French police after they took several people hostage in a church in northern France on Tuesday, media reports said.

The incident took  place in the Normandy town of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, south of Rouen. French media reported the attackers slit the throat of the priest.

French President Francois Hollande was on his way to the site of the attack.

It is not immediately clear how many attackers were there or what was their motive.

In France, the Normandy attack comes 12 days after a 31-year-old Tunisian killed 84 people in the French Riviera city of Nice.
