Kabul: Ex-Afghanistan president Hamid Karzai has slammed Pakistan for mistreating Afghan refugees who had to cross the border for safety following the collapse of the government last year.

Based on the media reports, over 1,100 Afghan refugees including women and children have been arrested and imprisoned in Sindh state of Pakistan, Hamid Karzai tweeted on Monday as quoted by Khaama Press.

Karzai has expressed his concerns about the mistreating of Pakistan’s government with the Afghan refugees and has called on Pakistan’s administration to take health approaches towards the Afghan immigrants in Pakistan and treat them based on the international laws and human rights values.

Karzai has also asked the United Nations and human rights organizations to monitor the situation with the efforts of providing better living conditions for the Afghan refugees in Pakistan and defend their basic rights.

According to Khaama Press’s monitoring desk, thousands of Afghans cross Turkham and Spin Boldak borders on a daily basis, most of whom do not hold valid entry permit and visas.

The Taliban took control over Afghanistan in 2021 by removing the government in power.
