An explosion rocked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district in Pakistan on Saturday which left at least 13 labourers dead, media reports said.

North Waziristan District Police Officer Naik Muhammad confirmed the death toll to Dawn News and said the incident took place in Shawal, near the Pak-Afghan border.

The van in which the labourers were travelling was completely destroyed by the blast, he added.

The incident took place on Saturday night when over a dozen labourers were heading to South Waziristan from the Shawal area of North Waziristan in a vehicle, Inspector Abrar had told Dawn News

Police officials had said the private vehicle carrying the labourers hit a landmine in the Gull Meer Kor areas.

The injured people were rushed to nearby hospital for treatment.

Following the explosion, all mobile service in the area was suspended.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar described the incident as terror attack

"Heartbreaking to know about the terrorist attack in North Waziristan which claimed the lives of 11 innocent laborers. Strongly condemn this senseless act of violence and stand in solidarity with the families affected," he tweeted.
