Leicester, Feb 26 (IBNS): A suspected explosion and subsequent fire left at least six people hurt in England's Leicester on Sunday, media reports said.

The fire reportedly destroyed a building.

The Leicester Police earlier called the incident as 'major'.

"Major Incident 19:19 |There has been a major incident on Hinckley Road, Leicester. All emergency services are currently dealing with this. Carlisle Street and part of Hinckley Road have been closed Please avoid the area," the police tweeted.

" Emergency services are dealing with a building fire in Hinckley Road, Leicester following a report of an explosion. Please continue to check our website https://leics.police.uk/news-appeals  and our social media channels for further updates. @EMASNHSTrust @LFRSFireControl," read another tweet.

The police, however, said at this stage there was no indication that this is terrorist related.

The injured people were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Rescue operation is still going on in the area.

Angel Namaala lives opposite the shop and told the BBC she heard "this big thud, like an earthquake".

She said: "The building had gone down and people were trying to help where they could by taking the bricks off. But the fire was getting bigger and bigger so people were told to leave the scene."
