COVID cases spike in Canada, reach 40,000

Ottawa/UNI: The number of confirmed cases of Novel Coronavirus in Canada rose to 40,179 on Thursday, while the death toll reached 1,974, Health Canada reported.

According to Health Canada, most of the COVID-19 infections have been reported in the provinces of Quebec (20,965) and Ontario (12,245).

The World Health Organisation (WHO) had on March 11, declared the outbreak of COVID-19 as a pandemic.

According to the latest WHO data, more than 2,471,000 cases of COVID-19 have been registered in the world, and over 169,000 people have died from the disease.
