Ottawa: Prime Minister Mark Carney met French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Denmark, including Greenland, and stressed that decisions on Greenland’s future rest with Greenland and Denmark.

"Canada and France will always stand together for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peace," Carny wrote on X.

They agreed that cooperation within NATO is central to ensuring security in the Arctic.

Carney and Macron also emphasised the need to maintain momentum in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and to work toward a just and lasting peace.

Building on a recent Coalition of the Willing meeting in Paris, they highlighted ongoing efforts by Canada, France and their allies to establish strong security guarantees, including measures to strengthen Ukraine’s defences.

The leaders agreed to deepen long-standing Canada–France cooperation to promote greater stability, security and prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic.

They discussed the importance of ties between the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the European Union, noting the potential economic benefits of closer integration.
