Canada PM Trudeau ensures actions against anti-terrorism lawbreakers

Ottawa, Nov 21 (IBNS): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said the federal government will certainly take actions against those citizens who joined the Islamic State, a terrorist organisation, breaking the anti-terrorism law of the country, media reports said.

The Prime Minister said Canada will prosecute all those who are breaking the anti-terrorism law.

Trudeau, apart from ensuring strict actions, also expressed his concerns for the security of the country. He feels the citizens, who have joined the IS, will pose security threats to the country once they return to the country.

"We recognize the return of even one individual (who joined the ISIS group) may have serious national security implications," the PM said on Monday.

"We are going to monitor them. We are also there to help them to let go of that terrorist ideology," Trudeau added.

Though the PM said the lawbreakers will be prosecuted, he also stated the Canadian government will try to bring those people, who have joined the IS, to the normal lives and embed them into the society.

According to a media report, around 160 Canadians have joined the IS so far while 60 of them returned to the country.

In late September, one Quebec man was convicted for attempting to leave Canada and join the IS.

Later, the man was imprisoned for nine years.

Habib, then 29, was caught in a sting operation which was carried out against him. The sting operation found that he wanted to go to Syria to join the Islamic State.

Habib was the first Canadian to have been imprisoned for desiring to leave the country and join the IS.
