Nine people, including a traffic policeman and three children, were injured after a blast rocked Pakistan's Quetta region on Wednesday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operation Jawad Tariq confirmed the number of injured to Dawn News.

He told the newspaper that the explosive material was planted in a heap of trash.

The explosion occurred when children, who were picking trash, were sifting through the garbage, he said.

The material of the explosive is still not known.

“The explosion was not a security lapse,” he told the newspaper.

“Foolproof security arrangements have been made with regards to the elections,” he said.
