Bangladesh ferry disaster toll at 54

Dhaka, May 17 (IBNS): The death toll in Thursday's Bangladesh ferry disaster touched 54 on Saturday as 23 more bodies were rescued by rescuers, media reports said.

" The death toll from Munshiganj launch capsize in Meghna river rose to 54 as rescuers recovered 23 more bodies today,"  The Daily Star reported.

As many as 53 bodies have been  handed over to the relatives, reports said.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA)  Chairman Md Shamsuddoha Khandaker on Saturday declared the rescue operation over.

The ferry was carrying 200 passengers when the mishap occurred.
