Dhaka: With Cyclone Sitrang moving closer, Bangladesh authorities have suspended river transports from Sadarghat to the southern districts, media reports said.

According to reports,  the cyclone is likely to make a landfall early on Tuesday morning near the Khepupara area of the Barishal-Chattogram coast.

Mongla and Payra seaports were asked to hoist danger signal 7 after the deep depression turned into a cyclone.

Chottogram, the key seaport in the country, has been directed to follow signal 6.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh has decided to suspend all air travel from the Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram and Barishal airports due to Cyclone Sitrang, bdnews24 reported.

The decision was made after taking the storm conditions into account, Air Commodore Sadikur Rahman  Chowdhury of Civil Aviation told the news portal.

Airports are taking urgent preparations, he said.

Cyclone Sitrang will hammer 13 districts in Bangladesh, says Md Enamur Rahman, state minister for disaster management and relief, but Barguna Sadar, Patharghata and Patuakhali’s Kolapar will be hit hardest.
