U.S. citizens who are at or near the hotel should leave immediately. Be aware of your surroundings; follow local authorities' instructions; have a plan; monitor local media."

The UK also issued a similar advisory to citizens.

“In light of the increased risks you are advised not to stay in hotels, particularly in Kabul (such as the Serena Hotel),” Britain's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said as quoted by UNI.

The Department of State and British Foreign Ministry said that there are threats of attacks from the Islamic State-Khorasan.

It has twice been the target of attacks by the Taliban, in 2014 and 2008.
