Afghanistan: Syedabad police chief killed during Taliban assault
Kabul, Oct 7 (IBNS): A Taliban attack in Afghanistan's Maidan Wardak province on Sunday left the Syedabad district police chief killed, media reports said.
Sharifullah Hotak, a member of the provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News that hundreds of militants stormed the district centre late on Saturday night.
The member said the district center fell to rebels later.
However, the rebels later left the district centre.
Several policemen, including the district police head, were killed in the overnight clash, Hotak told the Afghanistan-based news agency.
Meanwhile, police spokesman Hikmatullah Durrani told the Afghanistan-based news agency that reinforcements had arrived in the district.
He also confirmed the killing of police chief Syed Zarab Shah Hashimi.
