Afghanistan: Over 100 Taliban militants gunned down in Paktian operations

Kabul, July 13 (IBNS): Over a 100 militants affiliated with the Taliban group, were gunned during during two separate operations, carried out by government forces in Afghanistan's Paktia province, local Tolo News reported.

The joint military-air force operations were conducted in Machalgho area in Ahmad Abad district and Shamozai, Patak, Haibatkhail and Yamanikhail villages in Zurmat district of the province.

While 55 militants were slain in Ahmad Abad district, at least 46 insurgents were killed in Zurmat, during the military operations, local officials said. Additionally, the Afghan defence ministry said that airstrikes in the two region killed 33 and 77 militants respectively.

At least 24 militants were wounded in the airstrikes, the ministry confirmed.

Even as the ministry said that seven Taliban commanders were gunned down during the operations, the Taliban rejected the toll.

It said that dozens of civilians were killed during the event.
