Toronto, Nov. 27 (IBNS): Rick DeClute, a real estate agent and the co-ordinator of the Light Up The Beach event puts up 80,000 lights on 15 trees in the Beach, Toronto every holiday season to support The Michael Garron Hospital Foundation to help people struggling with mental health and addiction, CBC News reported.

Light Up The Beach event, took place in the east-end neighbourhood Friday night on Nov 25 at the end of the Leuty Avenue, The Beach, Toronto, Ontario, Carley McIntosh from DeClute Real Estate Ltd. told the media.

For the last nine years, DeClute's team had strung up around 20,000 linear feet of lights by the boardwalk.

"It takes us a month to put them up — two guys and two cranes," DeClute told CBC's Metro Morning Friday.

The lighting ceremony took place at 7 p.m. Rick DeClute, a founding partner and sales representative with DeClute Real Estate Ltd., and Sarah Downey, president and CEO of Michael Garron Hospital (MGH), Toronto East Health Network, joined Santa Claus for the big event.

Local singer Emma Harvey,  Arthur Potts, MPP, The Malvern C.I. band, and Choir were also present, confirmed McIntosh.

DeClute said the event is meant to bring more people down to the boardwalk in the wintertime.

"It looks spectacular, especially if you get out on a kayak or a boat in the water," DeClute said.

The lights, strung up as high as 65 feet through the oak, maple and willow trees lining the shores of Lake Ontario, will stay up until February.

The event supports The Michael Garron Hospital Foundation to help people struggling with mental health and addiction.

Last year’s Light Up the Beach raised more than $2,000 for MGH.
