21 drown in Myanmar ferry mishap

Yangon, Mar 14(IBNS) At least 21 passengers were dead and 26 missing when a ferry sunk off the coast in western Myanmar's the Rakhine state, reports said on Saturday.

The vessel  was carrying more than 200 passengers from Kyaukphyu to Sittwe  when it sankon Friday evening.

Reports said 21 bodies, including 19 of women, have been recovered.

While 167 passengers have been rescued 26 remain missing. Efforts are on to recover more bodies with the help of the navy and other agencies.

It is suspected that the boat sank because of overloading.
