Missed your train station? No problem! Railways’ new rule will save your seat
The Indian Railways has introduced a series of passenger-friendly reforms aimed at enhancing flexibility and convenience for travellers.
Under the new rule, passengers can now change their boarding station digitally up to 30 minutes before the train departs from its origin station.
Earlier, such changes were allowed only before the preparation of the reservation chart.
With this provision, passengers who are unable to board from their originally selected station can opt for a more convenient boarding point without losing their confirmed seat.
The new system came into effect from April 1 and is currently applicable to passengers holding confirmed or RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) tickets.
In a further move to improve ease of travel, the Railways is set to allow cancellation of counter tickets from any railway station across the country, doing away with the earlier restriction that required cancellation only at the originating station.
Additionally, the requirement to file a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) for e-tickets has been scrapped. Refunds will now be processed automatically upon ticket cancellation.
In another significant update, passengers can upgrade their travel class up to 30 minutes before departure—a facility that was previously limited to the period before chart preparation.
