WTC Final: First session of India-NZ play on day 1 cancelled due to rain

Southampton/IBNS: In bad news for all cricket lovers, the first session of play on the first day of the World Test Championship Final between India and New Zealand has been cancelled due to rain.

"Unfortunately there will be no play in the first session on Day 1 of the ICC World Test Championship final," the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has posted an update on Twitter.

The Indian cricket team on Thursday announced their playing XI for the final.

Hanuma Vihari, Wriddhiman Saha, Mohammad Siraj and Umesh Yadav were the four members of the 15-member squad, who missed out from the playing XI.

The Indian team management have gone in with five bowlers. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will be the two spinners, while the three-man pace attack will comprise Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah.

This is only the second time that Jadeja and Ashwin will be playing a Test match together in England since 2014.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will open the innings, followed by a middle order comprising Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, and Rishabh Pant.
