Chittagong, Mar 31 (IBNS): Rangana Herath bowled a memorable spell to take a career best 5-3 to help Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 59 runs in a World T20 match to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament here on Monday.

After being bowled out for only 119 runs in 19.2 overs, Sri Lanka returned sharply by packing the New Zealand batting line-up for 60 in 15.3 overs.

Herath's destructive 3.3 overs finished New Zealand's hopes of qualifying to the next round.

Sachithra Senanayake took two wickets for Sri Lanka.

New Zealand batsmen looked helpless before Sri Lankan spinners with only

Kane Williamson reaching the double figure mark of 42.

He hit six boundaries in his 43-ball knock.

Earlier, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 119 runs.

Trent Boult bowled a career best  3-20 and Jimmy Neesham 3-22 to restrict Sri Lanka to a low total.

Mitchell McClenaghan picked two wickets.

Mahela Jayawardene remained the top scorer for Sri Lanka with his 25 in Monday's low-scoring match.
