Warne's Warriors win a humdinger, complete a clean sweep
Los Angeles, Nov 15 (IBNS) Warne's Warriors won a humdinger of a game here on Saturday to win all the 3 matches of the Cricket All Stars Series against Sachin's Blasters.
After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Sachin Tendulkar's team put on a challenging 219 runs on board for the loss of 5 wickets.
The Blasters were aided by Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly's knocks, who scored 56 and 50 respectively.
They were well supported by Mahela Jayawardene (41) and Carl Hooper (33 not out).
After a 55-run opening stand with Virender Sehwag (27), Sachin put on another 50+ stand with Jayawardene as they added 74 runs for the second wicket partnership. After the dismissal of the Jayawardene, Sourav and Hooper added another 86 runs for the fourth wicket, to take the Blasters' score past the 200-run mark.
Ganguly who faced 37 balls, hit 3 fours and sixes to complete an fine fifty.
For the Warriors, Dan Vettori was the pick of the bowlers. The southpaw picked up 3 wickets for 33 runs in his 4 overs. One each were picked by Courtney Walsh and Andrew Symonds.
Starting the run chase, Warne's team was in trouble as they lost their opener Michael Vaughan for nought, sent back to the pavilion by Curtley Ambrose in the first ball of their innings.
A steady 50-run partnership for the second wicket by Matthew Hayden (12) and Andrew Symonds (31) steadied their ship but it was rocked back again by the dismissal of the duo in the space of an over. The Warriors lost wickets at regular intervals to slide at a precarious 129 for 5 with a little less that seven overs to spare but fought back well to clinch the match.
Ricky Ponting (43 not out) and Jacques Kallis (47) played brisk cricket and added 88 runs in 6 overs for the sixth wicket to take the match away from the Blasters.
Kallis plundered 26 runs of an Ambrose over to tilt the match in the Warriors' favour which was then ended by their captain Shane Warne with a flourish.
Off-spinner Greame Swann picked up 2 wickets, followed by Ambrose, Hooper and Sehwag, who picked up one each.
Jacques Kallis was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match for his quickfire knock, while Kumara Sangakkara took home the Man-of-the-Series trophy for his consistent form.
