Virender Sehwag officially announces his retirement from international cricket

New Delhi, Oct 20 (IBNS): An icon and terror for bowlers, Virender Sehwag, who has charmed the world of cricket with his batting skills for 16 years, announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday.

"I hereby retire from all forms of international cricket and from the Indian Premier League. A statement will follow," Sehwag tweeted.

"Thanks everyone for all ur wishes n love," read his another tweet.

Calling him a 'modern day legend', Indian Test team skipper Virat Kohli posted: "Pleasure to have played with you @virendersehwag bhai. What an amazing career. Thanks for the guidance and the memories. Modern day legend!"

Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones said:"Congrats to @virendersehwag on just a brilliant career! It was a privilege to watch you play sir! #genius."

Politician Omar Abdullah said: "What a joy you were to watch @virendersehwag, in parts sublime & in parts exasperating but always exciting. We shall miss watching you play."

Sehwag turned 37 on Tuesday. He was failing to find a place in the Indian squad for quite some time.

In his glorious career, where he was known for his ability to terrorise bowlers with his abilities to play big shots, Sehwag has played 104 Tests, scoring 8586 runs with an highest score of 319 runs.

In his ODI career, the batsman has played 251 matches scoring 8273 runs with a highest of 219 runs.

He has played 19 T20 matches in his career.

He had represented India in a Test match in 2013 when the national side had faced Australia in Hyderabad.

Sehwag played his last OD match against Pakistan  in Kolkata in the same year.
