Steady India look to extend lead against South Africa in Jo'burg

India scored 49/1 at stumps on day 2, taking a lead of 42 runs.

In a surprising move, India have sent wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel along with Murali Vijay at the start of the second innings on Thursday.

Patel, who had earlier been successful at the top spot, was looking good with the bat.

He quickly reached 16 runs from 15 balls but it was a brilliant catch by Markram that deprived the Indian fans from enjoying the batting display of Patel.

KL Rahul joined Vijay and successfully survived the rest of the overs of the second day.

Vijay and Rahul are not out at 13 and 16 runs respectively.

Vernon Philander picked up the only wicket of Patel. He conceded 11 runs in 5 overs.

Earlier on a green top, the South African team tasted their own medicine as the visiting Indian side bowled them out for 194 runs.

For the hosts, Hashim Amla top scored with 61. The veteran faced 121 balls during his essay, which was encrusted with seven boundaries.

Amla received able support from South African quicks, Vernon Philander and Kagiso Rabada, as they chipped in with 35 and 30 important runs.

For India, their latest debutant Jasprit Bumrah picked his maiden five-wicket-haul in Test cricket.

Pacemen Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami too picked up 3, 1 and 1 wickets respectively.
